Use of Minnis Bay Sailing Club Boats

The club owns a number of boats which members may hire for a nominal fee:

Topper 1 Small 1 person dinghy, ideal for older children and adults with less experience. £10
Pico 1 Small 1-2 person, 1-2 sail dinghy ideal for either 1-2 children or a child and parent. £10
Laser 1 Larger 1 person dinghy with a standard rig. More suited to experienced sailors.
Laser 2000 3 2 person, 2 - 3 sail dinghy. A very controllable boat with reefing to reduce sail area making it suitable for less experienced sailors. £10
Dart 16 3 2 - 3 person, 2-3 sail catamaran. With 2 sails in light winds a good stable platform for less experienced sailors. In stronger winds and with 3 sails an exciting sail for those with more experience. Has a trapeze option.

It must be recognised that sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By hiring a club boat, you agree and acknowledge that:-

Detailed information on the booking and use of the Club Boats can be found on the Club notice board. However, please note the bullet points below;

  • Club boats can only be hired when a safety boat is on the water
  • Fees are per half-day session, so a full day's sailing will be 2 sessions.
  • All hire fees must be paid for, except when used during a paid sailing lesson
  • Boat hire forms must been completed and passed to a member of the Sailing or Executive committee with payment before a boat can be used
  • Please book a club boat via the booking sheet on the club notice board
  • You are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and you accept responsibility exposing yourself to such inherent risk while hiring a boat;
  • You accept responsibility for any injury, damage and loss to the extent caused by your own negligence;
  • You will comply at all times with the instructions of the Officer of the Day/Training officer, particularly with regard to handling of the boats, wearing of buoyancy aids and the wearing of suitable clothing for the condition.
  • The provision of safety boat cover is limited to such assistance, as can be practically provided in the circumstances.

Payment must be made for all hire sessions, except when used for Paid Training.  Booking of club boats can be made via the booking sheet on the club notice board, this is on a first come first served basis.
